About Myself

I am Prof Pankaj Khanna, teaching Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry of Acharya Narendra Dev College since 2009. I love to demonstrate the beauty of chemistry of carbon to the students and synthesize new compounds for the betterment of the society. I was selected as a Vice Chancellor's fellow (University of Delhi) for the year 2014 and was recently selected as a  Digital Literacy Champion by Campus of Open Learning, University of Delhi, for further training at Edinburgh College, Scotland, UK, July 2015.

Educational qualification

I did B.Sc.(Hons) in Chemistry in 1998 from Rajdhani College and M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Hindu College, University of Delhi in 2000. I qualified CSIR(NET) examination held in December 1999 and have my Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic & Natural Product Chemistry with Professor S.C. Jain, Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi. I have also done a Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights from IGNOU.

  1. Stereochemistry I: The lecture deals with the concept of chirality, enantiomerism discovery, the Discovery of tetrahedral geometry of Carbon and symmetry elements.
  2. Stereochemistry II: Discussion continues to Projection formulae, Enantiomers and Diastereomers, meso compounds and Racemic mixture.
  3. Stereochemistry III: Concepts of Configuration, CIP rules and R/S configuration.
  4. Stereochemistry IV: E/Z and Resolution, then some dynamic stereochemistry which includes examples of stereoselective and stereospecific reactions, the lecture talks about.
  5. Conformations: Stereochemistry of carbon carbon single bond.
  6. Amino Acid, Peptides and Proteins: Introduction to protein, peptides and amino acids. Structure, classification and acid base behaviour of amino acids and electrophoresis.
  7. Amino Acid, Peptides and Proteins II: Methodologies for amino acids synthesis.
  8. Electronic Displacements: Basics of organic chemistry including Inductive, Electromeric, and Resonance.
  9. Electronic Displacements II: Examples of Resonance, Hyperconjugative effects and reaction mechanism.
  10. Reaction Intermediates: Starting with organic reaction intermediate, discussion on carbocation.
  11. Reaction Intermediates II: Carbanions and free radicals.
  12. Acids and Bases (with carbenes): Organic acids and bases discussed. Topic of carbenes from above (10&11) covered at the end.
