Earth is steadily warming up because of human activities .Gases, primarily carbon dioxide, emitted while burning fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil, lead to heat being trapped by the atmosphere ,as also the heat causes glaciers to melt ,floods ,droughts, extinction of species.......it’s a long scary list. Based on estimates byNASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, 2005 was the warmest year since reliable, widespread instrumental measurements became available in the late 1800s, exceeding the previous record set in 1998 by a few hundredths of a degree. Temperature changes vary over the globe. Since 1979, land temperatures have increased about twice as fast as ocean temperatures (0.25 °C per decade against 0.13 °C per decade).[ Ocean temperatures increase more slowly than land.
Social and economic effects of global warming may be exacerbated by growing population densities in affected areas. Global warming is expected to cause changes in the overall distribution and intensity of events, such as changes to the frequency and intensity of heavy precipitation. Broader effects are expected to include glacial retreat, Arctic shrinkage, and worldwide sea level rise.
