My profile
Hi, I'm amazed by the size of this community of practice. I'm a manager of a Language Self Access Centre and work for a tertiary institution; Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) in New Zealand. My job is to encourage Autonomous Language Learning (ALL) and to develop the support for students self studies through the centre.
Professional background
I've been a teacher for many years at many different levels; primary, intermediate and tertiary levels. I am now mainly focussing on English language learning. However, the concept of autonomy is basically the same in a content based classroom.
Education
I've got a Bachelor's Degree in Education, TESOL cert and CELTA and am currently studying towards a Masters in Language Learning and Technology through the univeristy of Hull in UK. This is a distance learning situation where we have used a platform called e-bridge which has not worked to my satisfaction. It was far too slow almost impossible to open up more than one tab at a time.
My interests
I read lot, I do gardening and like to go for long walks and tramping The most enjoyable thing I do is playing the ukulele, which I learnt just 3 years ago. I'm still more enthuisiastic than skilled as I haven't played any instruments before. I also like to sing together with others.
