Course Description
- This course is designed to equip you, the student, with the knowledge and understanding of how children learn science and the importance of science in a developing country. it is designed to provide you with the skills and methodologies to effectively plan, deliver, assess, and evaluate science lessons.
Method of Instruction
- The course will be presented using independent readings, discussions, and presentations. Microteaching will also be included.
Course Objectives
- During the course, you will be able to:
- Analyze the recent trends in science education policy and goals;
- Examine personal beliefs and attitudes and reflect on the teaching and learning of science;
- Justify constructivism as it relates to science education;
- Differentiate between the diverse science methodologies used in the teaching of science (investigations, discovery, field trips);
- Design science lessons/activities that are developmentally appropriate and sensitive to the needs, values, and interests of students;
- Model appropriate process skills, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques that promote science learning in small group or whole-class settings;
- apply alternative assessment strategies to evaluate knowledge and skills in science content and process;
