Course Description

This course is designed to equip you, the student, with the knowledge and understanding of how children learn science and the importance of science in a developing country. it is designed to provide you with the skills and methodologies to effectively plan, deliver, assess, and evaluate science lessons.

Method of Instruction

The course will be presented using independent readings, discussions, and presentations. Microteaching will also be included.

Course Objectives

During the course, you will be able to:
  • Analyze the recent trends in science education policy and goals;
  • Examine personal beliefs and attitudes and reflect on the teaching and learning of science;
  • Justify constructivism as it relates to science education;

  • Differentiate between the diverse science methodologies used in the teaching of science (investigations, discovery, field trips);
  • Design science lessons/activities that are developmentally appropriate and sensitive to the needs, values, and interests of students;
  • Model appropriate process skills, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques that promote science learning in small group or whole-class settings;
  • apply alternative assessment strategies to evaluate knowledge and skills in science content and process;
