Professional background
I began my career as an elementary school teacher 1968. I later joined the staff at Belize Teachers' College (BTTC), the only teachers college at the time. In 1989 I moved into administration to take up the post of Principal at the BTTC, a post I held until July 2000 when the college merged with four other government funded institutions to become the University of Belize (UB). In August 2000 I became the first Dean of the Faculty of Education at UB, a post I held until 2003 when I left to pursue doctoral studies. I returned to Belize in 2008. In 2009 I applied for the post of Assistant Provost at UB, a post I currently hold...
Education
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica, a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the State University of New York (SUNY) in Albany and a PhD in Education Policy Planning and Analysis from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida ...
My interests
Professional
I have nurtured interest in teacher education and higher education because of my experience in those areas over the year. However, I am also keenly interested in the area of student services/student affairs since I took up my current job. For some time now I have also been interested in finding ways to help Belize embrace open and distance education. In the 1990s, through funding from the World Bank and the UK Department for International Development, BTTC launched a program to increase the number of professionally qualified elementary school teachers. That was our first efforts at distance education. Unfortunately we have made little progress in open and distance education since then. I am hoping that I will be able to build more interest in the area...

I am divorced and the mother of a wonderful son who has just brightened my life with the birth of his first child--a cheerful, beautiful granddaughter

| Brief description of project |
<I would like to create an OER portal page for my institution. I believe that I will be able to encourage more of my colleagues to collaborate on institutional and classroom projects through this portal. While many have benefited from OERs I do not believe that many have contributed to development of materials through open authoring on WikiEducator. I would like to begin by setting up the site and sharing it with colleagues.> |
