Work Experience

I am Mr. Leiva currently an assistant lecturer at U.B. Originally from Orange Walk Town,I worked most of my life in Belize City.From 1973 to 1988 I served as Mathematics and Technical Drawing Teacher at B.J.S.S#2 now Gwen Lizarraga High School.From 1988 to March 2008 I served as an education officer responsible for personnel matters related to primary school teachers.My responsibilities in this field included the following:approving the hiring and firing of teachers, approving leave of absence i.e.long leave,sick leave,maternity and paternity leave,urgent private affairs,study leave with/without pay.Another responsibility was the processing of service records of teachers for retirement benefits.

Educational Background

My primary and secondary education were received at La Inmaculada CPS and Muffles College High School respectively. I then went to Belize Teachers Training College (BTTC) where I qualified both as a primary and as a secondary school teacher. At Worcester College of Higher Education I received a certificate in Education in the Teaching of Mathematics and at the University of Adelaide South of Australia, I earned a Bachelors Degree in Educational Management and Administration. I have also done courses at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
