Course prerequisites[edit]

Design and implementation[edit]
- Target learners - I suggest including learning designers/developers as well as teachers in the target learners - some larger institutions, especially in tertiary sector, may have a dedicated person to put course materials online.
- Blog - require WordPress.com, not Blogger or other platforms, so that learners become familiar with WP. (Unless use COL or other specific WP server, as suggested further down.)
- Learning contract - what penalties will there be for learner and/or supervisor if learner doesn't engage? (Perhaps institution won't be able to enrol more learners in the course unless they demonstrate commitment in some way?). Require institutions to explain how learner will have time to study within the cohort period(with time release if necessary)?
Learning objectives[edit]
I would re-order these (and the learning content) so that H5P comes after the learner has thought about the sequencing and the activities that fit into that - so they are led by the principles and not the tool. I suggest this order:
- Wiki skills
- Use social media (because have to do this from very beginning)
- Storyboard
- Sequence and chunk
- Integrate pedagogical elements (does this mean learning activities?)
- H5P
- Publish learning sequence
- Reword the H5P one to 'Design and publish selected H5P...'.
- Add something like 'apply best practice for online security and interpersonal communication on a shared professional platform'?

- Under Select design project, do they have to select OERu online content, or just OER?
- Neater to omit 'challenge' from Learning contract challenge as it is not really a challenge, so confusing.
- Require blog to be in WordPress (either .com or specific server)
- The Basic wiki skills' is confusing - looks like you need these before the course commences (for acceptance portfolio), but then it is first module in the actual course.
- As explained above, would re-order content to put H5P module later. Can include embedding H5P in the wiki in this module.

In the 'Design and implementation considerations', there's something not quite right with point 3 ("Design and implement suitable prerequisites for gaining entry into the course..."). Perhaps add "We recommend that entry into the course be dependent on successful completion of suitable prerequisites... This will also improve the likelihood of successful EDT4OL completion"
"Design a basic learning contract that outlines actions the learner promises to undertake in the course" - perhaps add in one or two examples?
Point 7 (re. H5P plugin) - add rationale and/or benefits (other considerations listed are all backed up with a rationale :) )
Agree with SW's suggestion re. re-ordering learning objectives. A more logical sequence (in the order in which learners will develop these skills) will show how the content is scaffolded.
Course prerequisites:
- Clarify whether it is cert of completion or participation badge that is required (for Ds4OERS)
- Point 3 mentions "submission of mini-portfolio", but earlier suggestion is that learners "publish a personal blog post on an open blog site" - is that what you're thinking will be mini-portfolio? I think that's potentially confusing. Initial thought was to change mini-portfolio to 'link to personal blog post...', but then see the 'Submit acceptance portfolio' content (Would application or enrolment portfolio be better?). Make sure consistent with requirements throughout the Curriculum Outline
Establish PLE:
- Suggest moving "Implement open source password manager" to second item in list (again thinking about the order in which learners will meet/benefit from these things)
Select design project:
- "Select what OERu online content..." OERu or OER?
Have made some small changes in language and layout of section re. learning contract (not really a 'challenge' as such)
Basic wiki skills:
- Not sure about order here (e.g. suggest swapping points 4 and 5 around). Won't learners have already needed (and used) some of these skills to be able to meet the pre-requisites?
Developing a storyboard:
- I'm not sure what 'storyboarding tools' is referring to, but would this be better placed earlier in the list?
Outlining a learning sequence:
- Perhaps flip points 2 and 3 (so that students learn about the OERF model first)?
- Also wondering if 'wiki conventions' (currently under 'authoring a learning sequence') would sit better under 'Intermediate wiki skills'?
