Session 1 - Tutor reflection

Jump to: navigation, search

This is my reflection on how the session went. What worked and what didn't. What I would change if I was to do it again.

1. The format of this session was good for giving me an insight into where the course participants are at personally. There don't seem to be any participants who are 'on board' with sustainability at this stage. There are definitely some intelligent and motivated people. It will be important for me to encourage discussion and forget about the 'time.' This will role model what is important, e.g. interaction vs information!

2. As the class was only 1 1/4 hrs and was an intro I tried to make it as interactive and introductory as possible. I did activities 'around' issues of sustainability without looking at what it is. Hopefully this has stimulated curiosity. Tomorrow's session may indicate whether that has been the case.

3. The class environment was not ideal. I need to find a way to get out from behind this big 'power' desk so I am more 'accessible'. There are 4 sets of desks in a circle with 6 computers on each. Interaction is difficult in this setting. I will need to find a way to get them out from behind their computers.

4. Seven of the 11 students turned up for this class. I need to think about how I am going to deal with 'slackers'????
