Hi Jim, I would not assume that level of preknowledge. How this one worked in practice was that the student teachers demoed the measurements and provided pre-measured volumes of ingredients to the first graders. The major pitfalls we encountered were very very cold hands. This version solved that problem by doing all of the mixing in a large plastic screw-top jar. We used it with older kids who did their own measurement. Rolling the jars down the hall was a great large-motor activity to break up the day.
