OK, I've managed to build my first ever igloo! I started with only a spade which made some pretty rough snow bricks but then I found a saw at the American Hut and that made ice brick making a breeze! I was told the key to making a good igloo is getting the slope right on the bricks as you work your way up. All very scientific I assure you! The final touch is the KIWI part... a koru in Antarctica?!! What does that make this igloo? A kiwigloo?!
First stage, the ground layer bricks. I used the stick in the middle to get the right gradient (slope) on the bricks. As the igloo gets taller the stick has a steeper gradient out to the sides!

Almost finished igloo. I learnt at this stage that the bricks hold better when you make a spiral effect. So from here on up it was spiral bricking!
