Question about values in the code of conduct and Main page in WE | 4 | 13:52, 12 March 2011 |
How many Codes of Conduct? | 0 | 07:00, 15 January 2011 |
Alison posted the following on the main WE list:
In our work on the WikiEducator Code of Conduct, we noticed an inconsistency and would like your feedback on how to proceed.
The current draft of the code begins with an introduction which includes the statement:
"This code of conduct is rooted in a value system. Wikieducators value:
diversity, freedom, innovation, transparency, equality, inclusivity, empowerment, human dignity, wellbeing and sustainability[1]."
These values were chosen as they are listed in the background section of the Open Community Governance Policy (Draft 2).
The inconsistency arises because the WikiEducator Main Page also lists values. The version on the Main Page is structured quite differently (4 bullet point statements). In my opinion the two versions are quite similar in content and intent. The difference is in the structure of the text.
I much prefer the list of values, shown above, to the bulleted statements provided on the main page and am writing to suggest that WE revise the main page to use this list of values (first proposed in 2007 and approved by the WikiEducator Community Council on 15 May 2010).
Thoughts from Wayne:
Procedurally the approved Open Community Governance Policy would take precedence above the version on the Main Ppage. The values on the Main Page pre-dated the policy discussions and have not been updated to reflect these changes
I'm supportive of your suggestion to update the main page accordingly.
Good idea to copy this post onto WE for the record. Thanks. I'll wait a bit more to give people a chance to comment. If noone has issue with the change, which is probably the case, I will go ahead with the revision. As the values statement is included on the main page via a template, I think I will source the value statement on the template page, only. Straight clean text is probably best for display on the main page.
Let me know if there is anything else I should be aware of in making the change.
Alison
Thanks Alison.
Yes, edit {{Frontpage values}}.
To ensure nothing is lost, I have created a separate page: WikiEducator:Values (feel free to enhance it :-).
- Code of Conduct for Council Members and others in leadership positions
- Code of Conduct for WikiEducators (educators contributing to WikiEducator)
- Learners and other users.
If more than one, what would they have in common?
- Items covering the values of WikiEducator
- ...
How would they differ?
- Code of Conduct for Council Members and others in leadership positions might include
- items that speak to good governance
- ...
- Code of Conduct for WikiEducators might include
