Talk:Wikieducator tutorial/Images and Media/Basics

I found this page a bit confusing and have made quite a lot of changes which I hope will help with this. It may pay to check them and ensure they're correct. Also, I couldn't find an Imagelist on the Special pages but I did find a Gallery and Most used images so have substituted those names. I also got rid of the control shift stuff because you don't use control on a mac and I couldn't manage to paste the little squiggly character which represents the apple key into the wiki even after I found in wingdings. New form for uploading images?

I struggled to follow the instructions for uploading a new image. It didn't seem to give the same name to the image as I typed between the [[ ]]. Looks like there is a new form for uploading images - maybe it has changed since the instructions were written?

Wikimedia Commons

Suggestion (for discussion):

At the start of the page, perhaps in a right justified box, suggest that users rather upload their media files to Wikimedia Commons and access them from there - and direct them to a tutorial on how to do it that way.

The problem is that new users will probably find this page when searching for a tutorial on how to upload images etc. and, once doing it this way, will continue in the same way without considering the preferred option (Wikimedia Commons) which makes their media files more widely available with less of a burden on WikiEducator servers.

Naming uploaded file

Proposed solutions:

  • User name+file name, or
  • User ID+file name. (User ID can be found in User preferences"
