Talk:Wikieducator tutorial/Creating an Account/Archive
Brent, this is looking great. I'm struggling here a little with dialup connectivity which is possibly a good thing. Wayne's message takes a while to buffer and play - not the best on dialup. Helena
- Helena, good point. I'm hoping to have an offline version of the tutorials which will have large multimedia files available locally. I see WikiEducator as a collaborative authoring environment - not necessarily the delivery medium.
However we must be sure to warn folk on dialups of large files - the MP3 playback will not start the download until clicking on the play button. So I've inserted a warning. We should think of a numbering convention for the media - Eg Creating and account: Audio 1; Creating an account: Screen movie 1. This will help with referencing the media files in the offline version. --Mackiwg 21:29, 29 December 2006 (CET)
Helena: thanks. I've redone a lot of the iDevice templates, made some nav templates, and been slowly working on getting some of the content together. The harder content is yet to come but I'm hoping to have some full days in the next week to start on that. I'm not so good at writing the objectives stuff and have left a lot of the activities blank at this point - was hoping that you might give me a hand with those. brent 08:24, 29 December 2006 (CET)
User page profiles
We must stress the importance of completing user pages for community building. Best to get folk to do this as early in the process as possible. This tutorial is a good place to emphasis the point. --Mackiwg 04:55, 15 January 2007 (CET)
Those green arrows
Would be great to have a transcript of Wayne's audio avalable. Should the activity in step 2 and 3 be combined as they are almost the same? I see the value of breaking up the tutorial into multiple sections, linked by the green arrows, but is there another way to present smaller chunks of information without having to load another page each time (very frustrating on low bandwidth and risks creating navigational problems). Is there a way to have all the sections on the one page, but with the option to only shows sections at a time? A bit like a drop box that exposes the content in the next step - rather than a whole new page? That way there could be the option to display all of the content at once (for printing purposes) or just reveal sections at a time without needing to wait for the new data to pass. --Leighblackall 07:10, 16 March 2007 (CET)
- Leigh, I can definately make a single page version of the content, and may be able to even create some kind of option to reveal sections as you go (no guarantees ;-) ) ... User:Kruhly is experimenting with some template magic that we may be able use to do this but we're stuck on a particular technical obstacle at the moment that we're trying to overcome. Will keep at it and let you know. brent 07:52, 16 March 2007 (CET)
