What is a Philosophy of Education?

As teachers, we are sometimes intimidated when asked to state or describe our philosophy of education. This is especially true for those of us who have not participated in formal teacher training programmes and who have not been exposed to major theorists in the field of education.

However, it is important to come to grips with this issue, as we all have a philosophy of education--whether covert or overt--which profoundly impacts the ways in which we view and engage with our students.
