Recommendation 29 Policies on device ownership
Recommendation 29. We recommend that the Government consider research and best practice to develop policies on device ownership and other arrangements to ensure students have access to a device.
Comment: Minimal research is needed if the price point of $100 can be achieved. Policies need be in place if devices are “lost” and how to identify each device with a student name (and how to burn standard images - upload ebook textbooks).
[An issue is how to prevent the machines being used by other family members in inappropriate ways and any traffic costs resulting. However in the short term this can be left unresolved if the traffic costs are borne by the family unless the school wireless system is used with an appropriate login.]
