Recommendation 16 Access to high-quality digital resources

Recommendation 16. We recommend that the Government consider ensuring access to high-quality digital resources to support the New Zealand curriculum for all teachers and learners.

Comment: There is already a huge amount of content already available through sites such as Audacity, Khan Academy and USA universities and the internet in general. The Ministry should encourage local content providers, teachers, academics, the community and indeed students themselves develop and make freely available NZ content. Current copyright legislation and the legal structure of Tomorrow’s Schools should not inhibit the development and open deployment of this content.
This particularly applies to the use of existing content and that prepared by active teachers.
There is a need to provide a thin overlay permitting organisation and management of this content the ideas for which I and other ICT professionals can readily provide.
