Other factors that influence Organizational culture

A part from the external environment the following elements also influence the Organizational culture.

  1. Values
  2. Heroes
  3. Symbols
  4. Legends

Values

Values are the beliefs about what is good or bad. The basic features of the culture of the organization stems from these beliefs. We can see that in successful organizations the values are deeply felt and reinforced.

Heroes

The values of an organization is further reinforced by its heroes. Most of the successful organizations are having such heroes who stood for the said values. This in turn becomes an all time inspiration for the organization. By acknowledging the contributions of such heroes the organizations encourage others to follow the role models.

Symbols

Symbols are the meaningful objects or events that highlight the spirit of organization in the minds of the people. Symbols can be prizes, awards, plaques, slogans, special dress etc. Symbols are an effective media to convey and promote and organization's values and thus help to reinforce the culture.

Legends

Legends are stories about actual events or persons. Legends help in imparting values to the new employees. They form the organization's folklore.
