Welcome to Session 1 on Setting goals, objectives and measures.

We hope that you found the instructions useful for setting up your learning journal.
By now you should :
- be familiar with the layout of the site,
- have established your learning journal (and registered the URL if using a blog) and tested a microblog post using WENotes. We harvest these contributions for the course feed.
- Completed the optional new OERu participant survey.
This session: Managing vs. Leading part 1
In the first part of session one we will look at setting goals, objectives and measures, how all three mesh with organisational strategy; how managers are responsible for making sure goals and objectives are attainable and the importance of measures.

Planning and strategy Part 2
In this session you will learn than translating goals and objectives into a plan is the next major step for a manager. In this planning function, managers identify the needed resources and organize them so employees can accomplish tasks and meet set objectives. Strategic planning also comes into play as deciding what the organization is willing and not willing to do will help reach the goals and objectives set by the organization.
