Programme/Course Design Support
We offer programme/course design support for existing and new curricula, including:
- Individual support, information and/or advice
- Flexible learning (including online learning)
- Social media and informal learning
- Open education
Professional Development
Support, advice and guidance can be provided for individuals and groups on all aspects of teaching, training, facilitation and assessment.
On-going education opportunities are offered through the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Learning and Teaching (GCTLT, Level 7) and a growing selection of Adult Education and Training Unit Standards. We support such areas as:
- Reflective practice
- Teaching observations
- Networked learning
- Individual and group mentoring
- Embedding literacy and numeracy in courses and teaching practice, in conjunction with the Foundation Learning team.
Treaty Education Training Unit (TETU)
Educational opportunities through the Certificate in Mata ā Ao Māori programme which includes, as a *stand-alone course, Introduction to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Support for the provision of Māori content in courses and programmes
Education for Sustainability (EfS)
Support can be provided for the integration and application of sustainability within all programmes. Educational opportunities are offered flexibly to help staff increase their understanding of what EfS is and how it can be incorporated in their practices through:
- adapting a generic course outline and/or generic resources for EfS content
- integration into programmes and teaching
- developing their own operational practices
- support in adopting processes conducive to teaching for sustainability
- tips on personal sustainability in the workplace and home environments
Each department at Otago Polytechnic has an Education for Sustainability Champion. This person works with EDC in supporting integration of sustainable operations, as well as content and process of Education for Sustainability within their department.
Individual Support
We also offer the following individual support including:
- Writing individual development plans
- Communicating on professional development opportunities
- Resource design and media production
- Learning and teaching based research and scholarship
Staff Excellence Awards
The Staff Excellence Awards programme is supported by EDC staff who assist with the preparation of portfolio applications for the National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards
