Historical Development
To extend the range of the Higher Education Revolution, and to complement the capacity of its institutions to adapt to the social, economic and educational conditions of higher education seekers, and in pursuit of the desire to liberate higher education from the limitations of time and place, it was deemed necessary to provide this kind of distance education. In recognition of the advantages unique to this kind of education and its potential in supplementing the role of campus-education, the Council of Ministers issued its resolution No. 164 dated April 2002 corresponding to the second of Safar 1423 H confirming the establishment of the Open University of Sudan. This was followed by the passing of the Open University of Sudan act by the National Assembly in its session No. 11 of its seventh round on 9th of Rabie Alawal 1425 H corresponding to April 28th 2004. The same year witnessed the endorsement of OUS organizational scheme, which conformed in many respects with what was stipulated in the Open University of Sudan Act of 2004, in accordance with which nine departments and secretariats were to be established. The University then embarked on implementing its organizational scheme by recruiting a workforce of appropriate size and caliber and establishing rules and regulations conducive to secure and durable employment
