New Zealand’s bicultural history has a significant impact on the way in which psychological research and practice is carried out in this country. Although many countries have recognised indigenous peoples, New Zealand is unique in having a legal document, the Treaty of Waitangi (Te tiriti o Waitangi) which agrees the terms by which Maori (the indigenous peoples) and non-Maori co-exist.
