Open Education Resource Portal for New Zealand Schools
A national project for reusable and portable content
Using a collaborative approach, New Zealand teachers can create and shape the digital horizon
The digital horizon needs to be developed:
- By teachers for teachers
- In a manner that is open to scrutiny
- With clear goals for teaching benefits
- With clear goals for learning outcomes
- In language that can be understood by all - technical stuff kept at a basic level
- Showing global exemplars of best practice - developed and developing nations
- With an holistic overview
- To allow for the varying needs of school, teacher and pupils
- Using innovative no8 wire attitude to lead the world
- With guidance from industry experts and Ministry of Education as required

edit Digital Independence
NZ Schools are funded within the top 10% of schools globally but still struggle to meet their own digital needs
For digital independence schools need:
- To make decisions for their school communities that satisfy the needs of that community
- New ways of working that are not reliant on grants and sausage sizzle fund-raising
- To be able to live within their means
- Funding allocated by the Ministry of Education to meet the digital needs of schools should be sufficient if:
- It is adjusted annually to take account of any change in digital component costs
edit Managed Learning Environments

- To retain New Zealand's position as an informed nation in the use of digital technology
- We need to use balanced research to guide our future
- It is important that questions are asked about why we are doing what we are doing
- If our schools are to be used as digital guinea pigs, the health and safety of all needs to be paramount in the decision making process
