Course Introduction and Requirements

This Teaching Tool has been created to aid in the teaching of Windows Azure.
The course is divided into 7 separate modules. These modules will take you through the creation or virtual networks and virtual machines to having a site hosted on one machine and view-able on another.

Assessment

For this course you will be required to create a google document (and share it with me) to describe how you have gone about creating the network and site, also this is where you will answer the homework research questions.

By the end of this page you will be able to:

  • Create a virtual network that can host and display a website.
  • Understand the components of a virtual network.
  • Understand the roles and features required to make a virtual network.
  • Understand and use web development languages.

Week 1 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Login to Microsoft Azure and create a virtual network.

  • Discuss what is a virtual network.

Week 2 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Create a new Virtual Machine in Windows Azure.


Homework
Make an entry into your google doc regarding the following points:

  • What is a virtual machine?
  • List 3 programs/software that use virtual machines.
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of virtual machines over physical machines.

Week 3 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Assign a static IP Address to the newly created machine.


Homework
Make an entry into your google doc regarding the following points:

  • What is powershell script?
  • What is a static IP address and why is it important?

Week 4 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Install Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and Domain Name System (DNS)

Week 5 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Create a new virtual machine for the web server.

  • What operating system do most web servers use?

Week 6 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Install Internet Information Services (IIS) onto the newly created virtual machine.

  • What is Internet Information Services (IIS).
  • How commonly is Internet Information Services (IIS) used in the world.

Week 7 Activities

This week you will be learning how to:

  • Create a site on the Web Server that is view-able from another machine.
