Create a Site in IIS
Step 1
In the Server Manager on your Web Server,
In the top right hand corner click Tools
From the list of Tools select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Step 2
A window will open this is where you will create your site.
Step 3
On the right hand side of the window expand the folder structure until you can see inside the Sites folder.
Inside the Sites, Right click and select Add Website.
Step 4
A configuration window will have opened.
In the Site Name field key in an appropriate and logical site name.
Step 5
At the the end of the Physical path field there is a button with...
Click the ... button to browse to this directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot
Inside the wwwroot folder create a folder for your Site.
Step 6
In the Host Name field key in the Site Name with .com on the end.
At the bottom of the window click the OK button.
Step 7
In the Sites folder you can see your newly created site.
Create the HTML file.
Step 1
Navigate to the directory you set as the physical path of your site.
The path should look something like this:
C:\inetpub\wwwroot
Step 2
Open up notepad
Key in Hello World
Step 3
Save the file to the site directory
Save the file as Index.html
Step 4
You will see the file name at the top of the notepad window will have changed if the file saved correctly.
Step 5
I suggest clearing out the other files from your site directory just to prevent issues further down the track.
Create Site DNS
Step 1
In top right hand corner of the Server Manager on our Web Server click Tools.
From the list of tools select DNS
Step 2
A window will have opened.
On the right hand side of the window navigate so you can see inside the Forward Lookup Zones
Once you have navigated to these location right click on the right hand side of the screen.
from the options click New Zone
Step 3
A Wizard will have opened
At the bottom of the window click the Next button.
Step 4
Ensure <Primay Zone</b> is selected.
At the bottom of the window click the Next button.
Step 5
Ensure that the option To all DNS servers running on domain controllers in this domain:<YOURDOMAINNAME> is selceted.
At the bottom of the window click the Next button.
Step 6
In the Zone Name field key in an appropriate name for the zone.
Remember to add .comto the end of the name.
At the bottom of the window click the Next button.
Step 7
Select the option Allow both nonsecure and secure dynamic updates.
At the bottom of the window click the Next button.
Step 8
Look over the summary page.
At the bottom of the window click the Finish button.
Create Site Host in DNS
Step 1
In side the newly created Zone
Right click and from the options select New Host(A or AAAA)
Step 2
A window will open.
In the Name field, key in www
Step 3
In the IP Address field key in the IP address of your Web Server.
Ensure the Create associated pointer (PTR) record option is selected.
At the bottom of the window, click the Add Host button.
Step 4
In the Forward Lookup Zone you will be able to see your newly created Host it should be named www
Viewing the Site
Step 1
The final Step to this Course,
Go to an internet browser on your Domain Controller machine.
In the URL bar, key in the url of your site it should look something like this:
http://www.sitename.com
A simple website should open with the words Hello World
