VIDEO's to view - HAVE A LOOK AT WHAT CONDITION 2 WEATHER LOOKS LIKE AT SCOTT BASE AND JUST HOW TOUGH TWO MARINE ECOLOGISTS ARE! :
- Click here to see Condition 2 environment at Scott Base Condition 3 is comfortable weather but Condition 2 weather warns us that the wind and air temperature have increased to a level that makes work outside difficult and visibility is decreased because of snow blowing off the ice. The windchill factor in Condition 2 ranges from about -50oC to -70oC . Condition 1 is an extreme storm where visibility is very limited and windchill is below -70oC. People in Scott Base are not meant to go outside at all in Condition 1.
- Click here to see two tough marine ecologists Luka and Rod, two of our team's marine ecologists, zipped outside in -22oC and 20 knot wind for 20seconds in their shorts, tshirt and jandals!
Trisha out and about on a skidoo. Super fun!
The view from Scott Base showing the sea ice pressure ridges along the front
Sea ice ridge up closer. What do you think this ice would taste like?
The pressure ridges up close where the sea ice meets the ice shelf and gets pushed up
An icy tongue in the pressure ridges. These are just like messy waves in the sea ice!
Icy ridge in the 'night' sky where the sun doesn't set this time of year
A strange emergency shelter! This is an old American satellite dish that has been converted to a shelter on the sea ice. It could sit next to the UFO house in Warrington?!
Bunkrooms at Scott Base. Very comfortable and warm.
The Scott Base doors. It's built just like a big deep freeze but it's warm on the inside and very cold on the outside!!
The NZ flag down under. This photo is especially for Nathan who makes sure the NZ flag is hoisted every day at Warrington school :)
A time capsule at Scott Base. What do you think is in it?
