Open Source - The term open source came out of the world of software development, and was originally used as a way to describe software source code and demonstrate how it's developed. Many organizations and companies have used an open source model for developing technologies and products. The basic principles of “open source” are: Openness, transparency, collaboration, diversity, and reuseability. Open source is commonly used to refer to more than a development model for software; it describes and defines the characteristics of an environment. (adapted from: http://opensource.com/about)
