  • Composition : composed of two laminae, one inner other outer.


  • Lamina : made of two lamellae,outer and inner, united at aterior,ventral and posterior edges but free dorsally.


  • Inter-Lamellar junctions- form series of ventral compartments,also have afferent and efferent branchial vessels.


  • Lamellae : composed of filamnts connected by inter filamentar junctions.


  • Ostia : present between gill filaments.


Glochidium larva

  • found in development of Bivalvia.


  • Size : minute larva,measuring 0.1 to 0.4mm .


  • Division : comprises head and mantle.


  • Shell : comprises two triangular valves,united dorsally and free ventrally, ventral end of each valve is produced intoo curved hook bearing spines.


  • Mantle : small,have sensory organs(brush like).


  • Adductor muscle : well developed,extending between valves of base.


  • It leads a parasitic life on a fish before metamorphosis into adult.
