Basic knowledge of NZ natural history/Activities/Flora

Objective

To provide students with an introduction to the range of native New Zealand Flora

Activity

The class will visit the Native plants section of the Dunedin Botanic Gardens.  You will be given a native New Zealand plant to identify and deliver a presentation on.

Task

In pairs, you will be given a native New Zealand plant to research.  You must prepare an interesting and informative 5 minute presentation on that plant that will be delivered in front of the plant at the Dunedin Botanic Gardens.  Your audience is a group of enthusiastic tourists with an interest in the natural history of New Zealand.  Carefully consider what sort of information this group of individuals would like to hear.

Your presentation should include

• Interesting facts that will engage your audience
• Maori myths and legends (where relevant)
