What is this course about?

This Gateway Impact Project looks at the induction into the world of work. Students will be able to undertake a work experience placement and the supporting standards will highlight the responsibilities of being an employee. This experience will also highlight the roles an employee undertakes within a work environment and the nature of being part of a team to achieve goals for a business.

Standards completed through the work experience placement will also assist students in specialist subject areas, strengthening study skills, and resilience in learning practices.


What will I learn?

· Develop further understanding of the workforce

· Develop goals alongside an employer to achieve on placement

· Participate as part of a team to achieve goals within a workplace

· Understand the relationship of written texts and their importance in the workplace

· Be involved in a formal interview reflecting on their work placement

. Develop time management skills

. Understand the importance of workplace systems and forms

· Reflect critically on the work experience process and what it means to be 'in employment'


What sorts of things will I do?

· You will complete a programme of work readiness skills covering basic health and safety in the workplace and customer service skills.

· You will work in a team to meet objectives in the workplace

· You will explore the world of work and the different expectations placed on you as an employee

. You will learn how to critically evaluate and write a formal report

· You will investigate a career in which you are interested in

  • Because of the nature of assessments being in a workplace environment, there is no opportunity for reassessments.
  • As Gateway standards are all industry based (Unit Standards), you are unable to gain NCEA endorsements for Gateway.
  • Gateway credits do not count towards NCEA/UE Literacy or Numeracy
