Nadi, Fiji, is a popular tourist destination for travellers in the Pacific region. For some micro-states, tourism comprises a signficant proportion of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Learning Summary: Tourism in Asia and the Pacific

Tourism is an economic lifeline for many of the micro-states within the Asia-Pacific region. After completing your study in the module you should be able to critically evaluate the importance of tourism for states within the Asia-Pacific region. You should also be able to provide an overview of the different types of tourism present in Asia and the Pacific. Finally, you should also be able to identify and explain the impacts of tourism on the societies and economies of states in the Asia-Pacific region and evaluate the impact of tourism on cultures within Asia and the Pacific.
