There is a growing body of literature on e-learning technologies (see for instance Gayeski, 1993; Gibbons & Fairweather, 1998; Kearsley, 2005; Khan, 1997; as well as a large repository of resources on the Internet including http://thinkofit.com/webconf/; http://osf1.gmu.edu/~montecin/platforms.htm.

In this chapter, we discuss only the critical and unique attributes of these technologies. These are: a) the flexibility that information and communications technologies afford; and b) electronic access to a variety of multimedia-based material that they can enable.
