Hello, my name is Ruben Ortiz and I currently work at Stanford University as a Network Systems Analyst. I have been working in IT for about a year now and have no prior schooling other than have read a few books on my own in order to gain certain certifications in the IT Field. I recently decided to attend DeAnza community college as a way to gain more experience and formal schooling in my field. My declared major is Enterprise Security Professional and I hope to attain my Associates degree from DeAnza in that field and then possibly transfer to a Bachelors program as well. When im not working or studying I enjoy reading, cooking and riding motorcycles.

Midterm

For my Midterm project I chose the topic of Securing Cyberspace. This is a topic I hold near and dear to my heart as an IT professional looking to become a Ethical Hacker. I really wanted to showcase in the articles I chose and the discussion questions I posed that the most efficient way to secure cyberspace was through knowledge. We have such a large number of the population that simply use the internet for convenience and ease and have no respect for the damage that can be done online. Surfing the internet with no regard for security would be equal to driving your car with no regard for the laws of the road. I hope my midterm will raise awareness of the part we all play in securing cyberspace and I hope everyone enjoys reading it.

1. Introductions

- I chose this link because as an introduction to this course I really wanted to find an article that I could connect with on a personal level. I come from a background of leadership having been a team leader for over 3 years now and this article had many of the principles I used on a day to day basis.

gravitated towards this article because I have noticed that over the years the online community has become more and more hostile and I felt this could serve as a great guideline for the younger generation of internet users.

great article to have read going forward as I may be able to learn some techniques that could be useful throughout the course of the class.

2. Privacy and Freedom of Speech

  • * http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/oct/18/were-all-casualties-holy-war-android-security-apple-john-naughton - Selected Media - I chose this article because it really does explain just how vulnerable a phone can be and that a phone is just a small computer and should be treated as such.

3. Intellectual Property

4. Crime

  • * http://www.infoworld.com/article/2992011/security/the-most-important-security-question-to-ask-users.html - Media - Stresses the importance of an educated user which is the key to stopping online crime.

5. Employment, Education and Entertainment

6. Midterm - Millenium Development Goals

it really did provide a good starting point for what type of organizations too look for and what type of work they are doing
