Ruth Mugambi

My name is Ruth Mugambi. I work at Kenya Institute of Education which is a national curriculum and educational research centre. I am a curriculum developer and specifically have developed the Home Science syllabus for Secondary education in Kenya. I have also been involved in the development of curriculum support materials specifically the development of teacher training manuals and Home Science handbooks and manuals.


At my individual capacity l have authored textbooks for Home science titled Focus on Home Science Pupils books for Form 1,2,3 and 4 and teachers guides for Form 1, 2,3 and 4. I have also written 'Hygiene for Schools and Colleges' a resource book for learners in schools and colleges.


I am a graduate of Kenyatta University College hold a Bachelors (Bed)and Masters degree (Med) in Education, Home Economics.


Currently, at KIE I am in a Division called Curriculum Orientation and Field Services. I am in charge of teacher preparation on a new or revised curriculum for Basic education. Basic education

in Kenya includes Early Childhood Education (ECD), Primary education and Secondary education. It also includes special needs education and cross cutting issues such as HIV and Aids, gender, life skills, Drugs and substance use and abuse, health and environment awareness.
