Get Real Life

Instructions

We prepared this series of Bible studies to help you experience real life in Christ together with others. Before you begin any module, please register first. Click here to register. After you register, someone will be assigned to you to assist you in your studies. Please follow these instructions.

✅ Read one statement at a time until you finish the whole module. Read each sentence slowly, meditatively and prayerfully. Don’t rush! Remember to read the Scripture reference(s) as well! After you’re done, take the self-test to determine if you remember the key statements. Repeat the self-test until you get a 100% score. Please don’t cheat!

✅ Reflect on what you’ve read and understood. Submit a reflection containing not less than 150 but not more than 300 words. Submit it to your tutor as soon as possible and in whatever way that you agreed to use for your communication with each other (for example: Text message, Messenger, Email, etc.).

✅ Discuss with your mentor or with a small group of fellow students what you have learned from the module. This will show whether you truly understood what you’ve read and studied.

✅ Do the action points or application. Make sure all items are done before you report to your tutor. He or she will give you the go signal to proceed to the next module.

Module 1: First Step

Messenger Version

  1. There is a life that is so much better than the best life you can ever imagine (John 10:7-10).
  2. This life can begin now and it will last forever (1 John 5:13).
  3. You can experience this life by trusting in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior (John 20:31) and by following Him together with others (Acts 2:40-41).
  4. You need this life because of the four problems of sin: separation from God (Isaiah 59:1-2), strongholds of sin (Romans 1:18-32), struggles with temptation (Romans 7:14-20), and the sentence of God on the Last Day (Romans 2:5).
  5. By trusting in Jesus and following Him every day together with others, you can experience the four gifts of grace: friendship with God (2 Corinthians 5:18-19), freedom from sin (Luke 4:14-21), formation of soul (2 Corinthians 3:18), and future glory in the new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1-4).
  6. You can begin this life by repenting of your sins now and by being baptized in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that you can be forgiven of your sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:36-39).
  7. You can do this by yourself by simply praying to Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins, or by asking help from a follower of Christ or a local Christian church.

Module 4: Redeem the Past (KRL 1)

Messenger Version

  1. In Christ you are completely forgiven of all your sins (Ephesians 1:3-10).
  2. Even though you are already completely forgiven, you still need to be redeemed from your past (1 Timothy 1:12-17).
  3. Your past can prevent you from experiencing real life in Christ today together with others (Acts 8:9-25).
  4. You can only redeem your past by putting your trust and hope in Jesus Christ in relation to everything that you have experienced in the past (2 Corinthians 5:16-17).
  5. Regardless of what happened to you, or what you have experienced in the past, God works out and will work out everything for your good (Romans 8:28-30).
  6. The best way to redeem your past is to go through a series of steps with the help of a trusted friend (James 5:16). As much as possible, this person should be someone who has gone through this process before. Otherwise, you will go through this process together at the same time.
  7. You need to recall your past so far (Galatians 1:13-17). One good way to do is to draw a lifeline on a piece of paper, dividing it into time periods vertically. Then divide your lifeline into positive and negative experiences horizontally. Ask your friend how to do this, if he or she knows how. If not, send us a message.
  8. Share your lifeline with your trusted friend (and vice-versa) and talk about your positive experiences first. Rejoice in the Lord together, giving thanks to Him for all that He has done to bless you (Psalm 103:1-2).
  9. Evaluate your emotional freeze points. These are events or experiences in your past that you have a hard time recalling (Psalm 42:1-4). As you look at these areas of your life, pray to the Lord to give you courage to recall them and for the Lord to deliver you from them.
  10. Deal with demonic strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). These are past experiences involving the occult (e.g. spirit of the glass, manghuhula, etc.) or cults (e.g. Iglesia ni Cristo, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Quiboloy, etc.). Talk about these experiences with your Counselor. Ask God for forgiveness and renounce these past involvements.
  11. Another kind of demonic stronghold is your unwillingness to forgive those who have sinned against you (Matthew 18:21-35). This may be difficult to do, but talk to your friend about these events in your past where people have hurt or harmed you. Ask God to heal you and to release you from these past strongholds. By faith, forgive those who have hurt or harmed you in the past.
  12. You need to embrace your past sins and mistakes. These are the things that you’ve done that may have hurt or harmed others or even yourself (Luke 19:1-10). They may be intentional or unintentional. Regardless, you need to ask God to forgive you. Also, you may need to talk with someone to ask him or her to forgive you. Do this as soon as possible and only if it’s still possible. If the person doesn’t want to forgive you, then you are set free from your guilt. You should also forgive yourself.
  13. You need to end untied transitions. These are events or experiences from your past that you need to forget about. You need to move on (Philippians 3:12-14). If you’re still living in the past because of them, you need to ask God to forgive you and deliver you from these memories, whether good or bad.
  14. You need to modify your wrong beliefs about God, about yourself, and about other people. These are mostly related to who you are. In other words, your sense of worth and significance. You need to renew your mind (Romans 12:1-2).
  15. You can repeat this process over and over, but not too frequently. Each time that you do it, make sure that you rely on God’s love always (Romans 8:31-39).

Module 5: Test the Present (KRL 2)

Messenger Version

  1. Experiencing real life in Christ together with others is a day to day process of cooperating with God’s grace (Philippians 2:12-13).
  2. It starts each day with thanksgiving to God for every good and perfect gift that He has given to us in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3-10).
  3. It involves the process of regularly examining your behavior (i.e. your words and actions) and your lifestyle (i.e. the way you’re using your time, talents and treasures) by meditating on the word of God. The goal is to be aware of any area where God may want to renew your mind in order to transform you (Romans 12:1-2).
  4. For every area that God makes you aware of, He wants you to confess (i.e. agree with Him concerning that area) and repent (i.e. turn from your sinful ways to embrace God’s ways), so that He can transform you from the inside out (1 John 1:8-10). You do this basically through heartfelt prayer.
  5. Inner repentance is not the end of this process. God wants you to act or to show proof of your repentance by actually changing your behavior or lifestyle. This involves stopping what needs to be stopped (i.e. putting off the old self) and to start what needs to be started (i.e. putting on the new self). You do this through daily choices that shows that you are willing to obey God regardless of your feelings (Ephesians 4:17-24).
  6. Godliness is a daily work of grace and cooperation, which is always by faith (Ephesians 4:25-32). It involves trusting God and His word because you know He is good, He is able, and He is faithful.
  7. Spiritual transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit as we live in community with others. We simply cooperate with Him by obeying His voice or His word as one body. This requires mutual accountability as well as perseverance (Galatians 5:13-26).
  8. You need to develop certain daily godly habits to be able to hear God and respond to Him in faith and obedience (Ephesians 5:15-20). They are as follows: a) Honor God with your time, talents and treasure, b) Attend to your daily communion with God, c) Build your knowledge of God through His word and works, d) Involve yourself in God-pleasing relationships, e) Take care of your own family as God does, and f) Serve God together with others.

Module 6: Plan the Future (KRL 3)

Messenger Version

  1. God has prepared good works for each of us that He wants us to accomplish in this life by His grace. This is the reason why He saved us (Ephesians 2:8-10).
  2. It’s important to live our lives purposely. We need to make decisions wisely so that we can bear fruit for the glory of God (Philippians 1:9-11).
  3. We need to rely on the Holy Spirit who can give us wisdom in our daily walk so that we can know His will and choose wisely (Colossians 1:9-14).
  4. To make wise decisions, we need to prepare a vision frame that can guide our lives (Proverbs 29:18). This vision frame should include our mandate (what we believe God wants us to do), our marks of success (how we know that we are accomplishing our mandate), our means or methods (how we plan to accomplish our mandate), and our motives (what motivates us to persevere and do everything possible to accomplish our mandate).
  5. You can discover your mandate when you encounter God, and He reveals to you a need that matters to Him and to you, and He calls you to fulfill a task in relation to that need by His grace and power (Exodus 3:1-22).
  6. You may not feel capable to fulfill the task that He calls you to do, but if He calls you He will equip you for the task (Exodus 4:1-17).
  7. Ask God to help you define what your marks of success should look like for the task He wants you to accomplish (Romans 15:17-22).
  8. You’re free to decide your means or methods for as long as it does not violate God’s word and they can help you accomplish your mandate in the most effective and efficient way (Matthew 10:5-23).
  9. Your motives or motivations must inspire you and give you courage as you face various challenges in the fulfillment of your mandate (2 Corinthians 5:11-15).
  10. After you’ve decided on your vision frame, you need to list down your lag goals and lead measures (Philippians 3:12-14). Lag goals are your ending goals, or goals that you would see at the end of a process. Lead measures are the immediate goals, or goals that you need to see along the way toward fulfilling your lag goals.
  11. Your goals cannot be accomplished unless you arrange your schedule to maximize your time and energy (Proverbs 6:6-11). You need to be proactive in how you budget your time and energy because you will need them to fulfill your goals.
  12. You need to navigate the challenges toward the fulfillment of your marks of success (James 1:2-8). When faced with a challenge, you need to wait upon the Lord, inquire from God’s word, seek godly counsel, and evaluate the results. In other words, you need to be WISE!

Module 7: Reach the lost

Messenger Version

  1. God wants everyone to know the good news about Jesus Christ so that they may be saved by believing in Him (1 Timothy 2:3-6).
  2. Anyone can believe in Him if only they are given the chance to truly understand the meaning and implications of the good news about Jesus Christ (John 3:16-18).
  3. The good news about Jesus Christ is that there is a life that is so much better than the best life this world can ever offer both now and forever, and this life is found only through faith in Jesus Christ (John 10:7-10).
  4. The life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ is also called eternal life because it starts now and goes on forever (1 John 5:11-12).
  5. This eternal life in Christ is characterized by blessings but it also includes sufferings in His name (Matthew 5:1-12).
  6. Those who have eternal life in Christ are perfectly safe in God’s great universe because nothing can separate them from His love (Romans 8:18-27).
  7. To have this kind of life is to experience the fullness of salvation in all dimensions and aspects of life (Romans 8:28-30).
  8. To experience this life, a person must trust in Jesus Christ from the heart and follow Him faithfully together with others (Romans 10:6-13).
  9. As a believer faithfully follows Jesus Christ together with others, God works in him or her to make him or her willing and able to do His will, which results in salvation in all dimensions and aspects of life (Philippians 2:12-13)
  10. Those who endure and persevere until the end shall be saved. Therefore, it is important for believers to help one another through the journey of faith so that everyone may be saved (Hebrews 10:19-39).
