Introduction

https://interactivenets.wikispaces.com/3.+Research+and+Information+Fluency ***

This is the first article I chose to review. Immediately the way the information is presented draws me to it. It not only is rich with text and information but it is organized well with bullet points and so on. It's first main point its touches on is how to plan strategies to guide inquiry which contains useful definitions to terms such as Scale Factor. It later begins discussing how to locate, organize and evaluate information from a source of different media, which is extremely useful in my opinion. Lastly it touches on how to process data and report the results.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_research

Wikipedia always has good information. Because of this article I know the subcategories within internet research such as focused and purposeful research. Research is one the things that has advanced greatly because of technology and it is a part of everyones life.

http://www.colorado.edu/history/undergraduates/paper-guidelines/using-internet-research

I learned a good amount of helpful research tips from this article. Looking up information through the Library of Congress was something I had not previously thought of. This retains undiably trustworthy information to the public and has untapped potential for future researching I conduct.

Privacy and Freedom of Speech

http://pitchfork.com/

The blog I chose is called Pitchfork and it is a music blog that writes about news in the music world and reviews new material from artist. I have been going on this online blog for about three years now and really enjoy how the authors break down musical artistry, they just seem to really put time into understanding an artist's vision. Blogging in the world of today is as common as anything. Since the birth of the internet blogging has been tangible to anyone and many people have their own regardless of how many people read or view what they post. I personally do not have a blog as I do not have a passion for it and life is already quite busy. I think in a way blogs have helped society in a way that allows anyone to have their voice heard. On the other hand I feel that certain information acquired from a blog can be incorrect and many people would just accept the information as true.

http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/05/20/americans-attitudes-about-privacy-security-and-surveillance/ ***

I chose these key words because I feel they are quite cohesive with one another. The article i chose speaks on how Americans feel about the rapidly evolving media privacy policies. It states that some individuals feel that these policies impede on privacy rights. However on the contrary some believe they benefit society and create a safer environment stating that people should have nothing to hide. This absolutely applies to our topic for this week simply because it shows how the general American public's attitude is about the issue.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/right-to-be-forgotten-vs-free-speech/2014/05/14/53c9154c-db9d-11e3-bda1-9b46b2066796_story.html

Freedom of Speech seems to meet at a fine line in regards to the internet world. People often complain that the fact the internet is a permanent yearbook so to say is a curse. You do not have the right to be forgotten because of the internet age.

Intellectual Property

http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2015/08/copyright-and-creative-commons-explained.html#.VhL9LytmqM0 ***

The article I chose basically explains how copyright and creative commons work in the tech era. One this that really surprised me was that as a creator you automatically own copyright over anything you create. Although it did state that for good measure you should register creations with the US Copyright Office. The article goes on to explain creative commons. Creative commons makes it possible for anyone to use a creators media without permission. However, It also protects you. You can make it so the person using your media must give you credit which is known as attribution. Another big thing about creative commons is that your work can only be used non-commercially. So if someone wants to use your media commercially you would still get payment. I chose the words I did because i knew copyright and creative commons went hand in hand and technology because I wanted to see how the other two words worked when it came to technology.

http://theadvocate.com/news/opinion/14180185-129/letters-intellectual-property-protection-vital

Intellectual property found its way into the new recently. Because of the the internet we have the resources to have the know how to tackle almost any challenge. However we cannot claim this information as our own discoveries. That would be considered taking the intellectual property of another individual.

https://www.jacobinmag.com/2013/09/property-and-theft/

If you take someones intellectual property whether it be via the internet or some other form of technology it is still considered to be theft. The quote, "one that recognizes the necessity of reformist struggles within capitalist institutions, while still attempting to move toward a break with the system and the creation of a fundamentally new kind of economy and society" summed up a way of thinking that I thought to be extremely thought provoking. This article also suggest licensing for intellectual property.

Crime

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-five-computer-crimes-protect/ ***

This article talks about the top 5 computer crimes and how to protect from such crimes happening to you. The biggest one in my opinion is the most known computer crime which is identity theft. This is one of the most common crimes and the most detrimental crimes. The social impact of this is that it can destroy someones life, specifically their financial life. When identity theft occurs your credit can be completely destroyed and your life earnings drained. There is some protection from your bank but often times the owner of the accounts is left to pick up the pieces which can have major repercussions. An example of this is your child's college fund could be drained and now their chances of going to college taken as well.

http://www.glencoe.com/sec/careers/exploring/student/devlinks.shtml

This article here I would suggest removing from the list most definitely, it wasn't an article at all actually. It was just a few links of jobs info sites. There are much better sites that have far more capability that helps find jobs such as Indeed.com or Monster.com. This was very unhelpful in my opinion. This would be a 0/10 for me.

https://hbr.org/2014/12/how-to-write-a-resume-that-stands-out

This was an article which was a good start for sure. It was about how to make a stand-out resume. This topic is one that has always been helpful since the dawn of resumes and I actually used a similar article to make my current resume and it has proven quite successful. This article spoke mainly on the technical points such as what to include and what to exclude, i.e. don't mess with margins or make sure to add what you have accomplished. The main difference that the article I had included that this one did not, which I think excluding this information weakened this article, was style points. Using color, text size, etc. are examples. Overall this article was good though and included some great points. I would rate it an 8/10.

Employment, Education, and Entertainment

http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2010/04/15/when-a-degree-isnt-enough

The good part of this article was that it had A LOT of information. 2) It was also good that it gave exact statistics on the job market and those who attained them through internships 3) It was also good that the information came from US News which adds accreditation to the claims . 4) The bad in this article was that it was just a block of text that made me lose interest and finding the good information within it was hard 5) Another bad aspect was that it was from 2010 which makes me think some information is outdated already. This article discusses how internships can be just as important as obtaining a college degree. The article even went as far as to say that internships are necessary in today's market. This was written in 2010 when the economy was still severely weakened but I still think it holds truth.

http://www.collegeparents.org/members/resources/articles/why-your-college-student-should-consider-internship ***

One good part about this article is it does something simple like explaining what an internship is for those who might not know 2) Another good thing about this article is it actually tells you how you can find internships 3) The organization was very good as well a perfect mix of dense information along with bullet points to deliver it simply 4) Also the article showed specific statistics which adds weight to their claims5)The on bad thing is i felt the article was a bit short but even so it still had a good amount of information. This article speaks on the reasoning a college student should at the very least consider doing an internship. It goes on to explain what an internship is and more importantly how to get yourself in one. It even explains how internships cause character strengths like confidence aside from the benefits gained on paper.

http://wikieducator.org/Creativity_and_the_Teaching_of_Music_and_Dance

This article talks about creativity and the process of music and dance.I like that it breaks down creativity into separate parts. Some examples would be the creative person, the creative process, and the creative product. I feel like those three flow into one another. A creative person goes through the creative process to make a creative product.

Grand Challenges

http://thewaterproject.org/

The Water Project Inc is the first organization I came across that actively works to provide clean and drinkable water to those in need. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization who provide reliable water projects to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa who do not have access to clean water and struggle with proper sanitation. The Water Project has been active for over seven years providing training, financial support, and expertise to communities to help them gain access to clean water. They help communities dig well, catch the rain, protect fresh-water springs, filter surface water, as well as constructing sub-surface dams to provide and maintain clean water. Although these are not very advanced technologies they are effective and do not require much upkeep.

https://www.unicefusa.org/

UNICEF's Tap Project is part of a government organization, UNICEF, that also provides clean water to those in need. However, UNICEF works in more than one hundred countries and their efforts reach more individuals. They have been active since 1990 and since around 2.6 billion people have gained access to clean drinking water. Ninety-one percent of the of the global population now has improved drinking water and that number is constantly growing. Their technology and backing helps them work on such a large scale. They recently delivered clean water to ten million people in Syria alone. Also UNICEF aided in restoring the water supply to Tacloban after the Typhoon Haiyan hit.

http://www.worldvision.org/about-us/who-we-are ***

World Vision is a Cristian humanitarian group working with communities worldwide to provide them with clean water. They are the leading nongovernmental provider of clean water in the world. They claim to reach a new person in need of clean water every thirty seconds with clean water. They also work in helping the move toward proper sanitation and have done so in 2,000 communities which are now open defecation free. They use simple technologies such as wells but this is only one type of water point they provide. Their water sources do not significantly decrease with age which is a good example how making sure your technology is efficient really goes a long way. Nearly 80% of World Visions wells continue to function at high levels even twenty years later.

Evaluating and Controling Technology

https://www.coursehero.com/file/10102871/Lecture-Topic-7-Evaluating-and-Controlling-Technology-CS4513-F14/

This article really helped me understand the concept of evaluating and controlling technology. Evaluating the information you find online is a huge part of evaluating and controlling technology. I have had good practice especially in this course learning how to distinguish good sources of information acquired from the online world. I was wondering what other technologies does this apply to aside from the internet?

http://c4lpt.co.uk/top100tools/

This article surprised me with some of the statistics. It claimed that Twitter is number one tool for the seventh year in a row with Youtube closely trailing. Aside from these claims there is not much of an article more of a list. I think this is great because it is simplified all the information into a list with all of the listed sites being hyperlinked, this can tell you not only where the site ranks but take you directly to the site to check it out for yourself.

http://hplusmagazine.com/2009/03/20/future-machine-intelligence/ ***

I would have to give this article a 1/5 for these reasons. Firstly the author is the head of the conference in which the article speaks on which is a blatant and major cause for concern that it will be completely opinionated. It also was from 2009 which means a good chunk of the information included is outdated considering this is a new and ever-evolving line of research. Thirdly, it was so long and filled with story like evidence or accounts of the research that it was hard to find much information that could be applied into a logical stance on this technology. Lastly the writing style of the piece sounded unprofessional in the first person writing style and only added to the opinionated feel of the article. The one good aspect was that deep within the excess information there was information that holds weight.

Risks, Failures and Sensibilities

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/04/coding-school-computing-children-programming

This article talks about a new computing curriculum in the U.K. as of 2014. The Guardian says that teaching coding and other tech curriculum at these schools is seen as a long term solution to the "skills gap" in technology jobs. This article seems to be on the side of supporting these programs in school, however, I personally do not think this is all that important. If everyone could code competition for these jobs would reach all time highs. Aside from this I believe we should teach children life skills such as how to file taxes or how to get a loan before teaching coding. I think coding should be left for college where children can specialize their education.

This article is about Homer Warner who is the man who first brought computers into medicine. He made machines that could read heart surgery patients heart rate, blood pressure, and cardiac output with speed and accuracy. By the late 60's Warner and his colleagues designed a digital monitor system that is standard in intensive care units today. Electronic medical records were another great aspect of merging computers into medicine. His ideas and creations have sparked the new era of medicine and has allowed medicine to advance drastically. Things such as discovering new illnesses, medical tests, and medical records are all essential in the world of medicine today. Many lives have been able to be saved because of what computers allow doctors to do.

http://www.debate.org/opinions/are-we-too-dependent-on-computers

This website asks whether or not humans depend on computer too much. The numbers showed that 76% of peope think we are too dependent and 24% say that we aren't. The advantages that come from computer dependency are convenience, saving time and money, and the transfer of data with little risk according to participants in the discussion. The opposing side feels that we are not we simply use it as a tool same as a car, electricity, etc. They point out that we use those things as much as we do computers but no one considers us addicted to those things. I personally think we aren't too dependent on computers but addiction to the internet does exist.

http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2013-06-14/news/39976342_1_e-wallet-facility-airtel-money-flipkart ***

The first aspect of this article that caught my eye was it's cleanly organization. What to know what an E-wallet is how it works and how to get one, well theres a section for all of that. The information was extensive but not redundant which weeds out unwanted or biased information. They even simplified information with charts and diagrams. Overall felt this article helped me get a strong grasp on E-wallets abilities and convenience. There was not much to be said negatively about the article for the most part. However I do wish there was some additional information regarding current brands or individual devices with e-wallet capabilities or different providers. This article broke down what an E-wallet is and what it does. The author broke up the text into categories. Some cool features E-wallets offer according to the article includes prepaying for flights, paying utilities, online shopping, and the ever popular mobile pay. However the author does warn against password theft which can lead to indentity theft, a common risk in online/mobile buying.

Technology Advances, Social Trends

http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2014/12/the-10-best-technology-advances-of-2014.html

This article is quite helpful. I learned that technologies such as an eye contact that reads blood sugar level exists. Even fun technologies like the hoverboard are currently in development. Whatever technology is capable of is what determines out futures outcome. The more advance our technologies become the more advanced the human race is.

http://sciencenetlinks.com/esheets/technological-advances/ ***

Technology is what influences human existence as we know it. It does this by bringing new risks as well as improvements to everyday life. It really is a blessing because technological advances have made it possible for people to live longer and healthier. Cures and other medical methods of disease control are all made possible because of the technologies invented within the last sixty years.

http://mic.com/articles/118002/these-8-incredible-advances-in-tech-are-changing-what-it-means-to-be-human#.PxhG0Vw3X

Wow technology is really starting to make some medical breakthroughs. New technologies such as glasses that will repair or upgrade eyesight will soon exist. There currently 3-D printed limbs for those who have been in accidents or born so. Even editing human DNA is on the table. There are even arms that are bimanually controlled.
