Midterm Topic:

“Provide Access to Clean Water”

The world's water provisions are facing new intimidations; reasonable, progressive technologies could build a difference for people around the world. Engineers have factually been major workers of methods for meeting the water quality and supply wants of civilization from excavating wells to building dams. To meet current needs, which progressively include ecosystem and environmental protection and improvement demands, the approaches will have to develop more sophisticated.

FINAL PROJECT:

  • " " = "best" for each topic.

1. Introductions

·       http://teachthought.com/technology/20-basic-rules-for-digitalcitizenship/ (20 Basic Rules For Digital Citizenship)

“The definition of digital citizenship has to do with the quality of behaviors that impact the quality of digital content and communities.” I like the following info graphic framed around Dos and Don’ts, “Treat others they way you want to be treated,” “Don’t forget the human behind the screen,” “Listen first, talk later,” and “Use proper grammar.” I think those are a bit basic attitudes not only on the website, also in real society. What influence does some abuser’s behavior? What happened if people should put SSN in their computer log on?

·       http://www.liutilities.com/articles/is-society-dependent-on-computers/#.Vg8vRRNViko (Computers and Society Websites)

Nowadays, computers are convenient device’s for our society and many people use daily. Computer have become a crucial part of life, allowing people to work from home, entertaining purposes and to keep track of important issues like as finances. People can search for everything. There is literally a entire world of knowledge and experience. But also people have become much reliant on computers. Computers are to enhance our society, also there are some side effects.

There are two researchers set up test via different conditions. One group of students was told to watch a 20-minute TED Talk on a subject and take notes by hand. The other group took notes on the computer. “Students who took notes on laptops tended to transcribe the content verbatim,” researcher said. I've experienced exactly what researcher said, "those students took many more notes, but seemed to process what they heard much less." I agree with that. When I took notes on laptops in lecture, I didn't remember what I heard. But, when I took notes using longhand I remember much better after completing the lecture. So, I believe the pen still mightier than keyboard.

2. Privacy and Freedom of Speech

·       http://www.jerf.org/writings/communicationEthics/node5.html (Keywords)

Free of speech is the right to express any expression in public, media, and the corresponding right to experience anyone's expressions in public without being any pressured. Censorship is the act of changing a message including the act of removal without the sender and receiver's consent. Free speech and censorship are understood as being two sides of the same thing, censorship often expressed as suppression of free speech.

Privacy is a gradually rare commodity todays. Just search for myself on the web, I might be surprised at the number of companies that claim to have information about me such as address, phone number, income, family and much, much more. That’s because my personal information, including my e-mail address, phone number and SSN, is value lots of money to legitimate businesses. Because companies want to know much about me so they can sell products and serve ads that are vastly related to my preferences. My questions are here: does the user or the hosting company own the data? If so, can the host refuse a user access to their own data?   And, most significant from a privacy standpoint, how does the host protect the user’s data well?

The best important point in Stephen’s list is “Predicting Consequences”. It really struck me. In previous my work experiences as a manager of airlines have been centered on problem solving and task implementation. I absolutely perceive the power of predicting consequences to determine success or failure of an achievement. I will try to ask myself, "What will happen next?" and watch situations and interactions unfold in the environment around me and try to predict the outcome.

3. Intellectual Property

·       http://timemanagementninja.com/2015/09/5-reasons-you-are-procrastinating-on-your-dreams/ (Learning literacies - Use it)

This is a great post I’ve ever read. I’ve got impressed and realized that at the heart of most the reasons of procrastinating are really my own excuses I stand. I think an important part of being responsible is never tolerating my own excuses. Moreover, not even asking myself if I feel like doing something but just diarized it. Mostly, feelings are fickle and will normally push me to what is comfortable. I have to do action instead of excuses.

·       http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/11/david-byrne-internet-content-world (Art and computers)

I choose this site because it states about what is problem occurring now between music art and this Internet in society. Writing about digital music distribution only perceptibly also leaves out the revenue from physical media, contributing even less authority to the idea of artists surviving on the amounts explained in this article.

The 2014 Survey: “Security, liberty, and privacy in 2025 Will a trusted structure that strikes the right balance be developed?” In this survey, this asked about the future of security and privacy on the Internet.  I was very interesting with this topic because I do worry about privacy in daily.  I found the statistics about 55% of respondents said that they do not consider an accepted privacy-rights regime and infrastructure is likely be produced in the coming decade. Some people answered even they cannot feel what is the problem about privacy. This survey exactly let us knows what should be dealt with our society problem. So, what should we do right now to be better arranged for how privacy is going to change my society's operating landscape? Also, what new lawmaking is going to influence how private data can be stored?

4. Crime

I believe this web site have a tons of information about the crime related computer nowadays. Also, It provides each different indicator case-by-case crime situations. I learned a lot about what should I do if I involved some of problems. As we know that there are 'white hacker' and 'black hacker', my question is who knows if white hacker pretends to changing mind to work as black position, or both?

I enjoyed this article’s list a lot. Productivity activities are the daily job in my study schedule. Especially, I am a big fan of these productivity apps what she mentioned and this information would help to surf Internet to find the best app for me.

“Provide Access to Clean Water” The world's water provisions are facing new intimidations; reasonable, progressive technologies could build a difference for people around the world. ·       http://www.unicefusa.org/stories/mission/survival/water/tap-project/how-your-dollars-turn-clean-water/7570

“How Your Dollars Turn Into Clean Water” One way UNICEF does that is by training resident entrepreneurs and engineers on consuming manual drilling to make boreholes through which water can be strained, much similar a well. Another way is by supporting sanitation practices like amplified hand washing and discouraging open defecation. As simple as it sounds, the mixture of producing access to clean water along with good hygiene and sanitation performs can save the survives of the 1,400 kids who die every day from reasons directly connected to poor water and sanitation.

·       http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/sep/18/machines-ethics-control-artificial-intelligence-google-demis-hassabis (new and important)

I read this tech article and it was very interesting. In this article, Google’s Demis Hassabis suggests we can mitigate the dangers of artificial intelligence by instilling values, but even now it’s evolving for its own benefit, fed by our phones, drones and CCTV.

The Tech Awards 2015 laureate: BeeLine Reader, I think this will have important impact on people in the world.  It will provide improves reading fluency and efficiency with a digital tool that guides the eye for online reading. Education is one of the best resources for the greatest number of people.

“Which Technologies Will Dominate in 2022?”In this article, in the future that we envision, multicore will allow us to recharge our smartphones just once a month. The Internet of Things will let us dress in clothes that monitor all our activities. Nanotechnology will enable lives to be saved by digestible cameras and machines made from particles 50,000 times as small as a human hair. And amid the exponential growth of large data repositories will be increasing concerns about balancing convenience and privacy. I believe the real story will be whether or not governments initiate to defend our online privacy with some equity to society’s privacy. I think the smart phone was the big story in individual tech of the last 50 years from here its going to be less.
