Human Rights Activity Five (Extension Activity)

Assessment Task Option H

Since the Genocide Convention and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were adopted in 1948, there have been several additional major international human rights treaties, which can be accessed here:

https://www.humanrights.gov.au/publications/timeline-major-international-human-rights-treaties.

Choose one of the treaties identified on this website. What is the purpose of this treaty? What human rights does it identify, and who is accorded these rights? How many countries have signed the treaty and is it currently in effect? What mechanisms are in place for enforcing the treaty, or encouraging compliance? Are any aspects of the treaty controversial?

You may choose to complete this task as a blog (approximately 500 words), as a video presentation (approximately 2 mins), an audio presentation (approximately 2 mins), a powerpoint presentation or by creating a website. For more information on how to prepare the task in your chosen format, please see the assessment tab under the 'About' menu at the top of the screen.

When you have completed the task and posted it online, be sure to send out a tweet to advise your peers. You may also like to review the posts of other students to learn more about human rights treaties.
