Inserting constructivist activity to elicit prior knowledge

Question about incorporating some constructivist pedagogy here...do we want to have learners engage in an activity that will elicit prior knowledge of what they know about 'Open'? Little survey? We could make the survey open and then they could see what others submitted too. Does this require followup or moderation? Just an idea. Thoughts.
