Order
Diptera
Family
Culicidae

Common name
Mosquito
Mosquito larvae are common at pond sites. As with other Diptera, there are no true jointed legs. Mosquito larvae have a distinctive extension from their rear end that looks and functions like a short, straight snorkel. Because we mostly sample from streams, we rarely sample mosquitoes.
