Introduction

For effective growth of plants in soil, they require nutrients. Nutrients can be divided into macro-nutrients and micronutrients.

Macronutrients

These are nutrients that are required in large amounts by plants for effective growth.

Micronutrients

These are nutrients that are required in minute quantities for plant growth.

The uptake of nutrients by plants is dependent on many factors including soil type, soil pH, water regimes, form of nutrient, soil organic content, presence/absence of soil micro-organisms, soil temperature etc.
