What’s it about?

When you begin your programme with ABC, you'll be eager to begin your studies and to settle into student life. These materials will help any student that is new to ABC prepare for those first few weeks, so that you can focus on what is important. You'll create your student profile, be able to access online learning materials, understand how to read your timetable (always important!), and have access to other resources which can help you in those key first weeks.

What will I learn?

In this orientation course, you will learn how to:

  • Log in to your 'My ABC' account
  • Check (and update if necessary) key information (including, for example, your contact details, which course(s) you are enrolled in, your student fees information, and so on)
  • Create an 'ABC Online' profile
  • Introduce yourself to your course-mates in an online forum
  • Navigate the 'Student Central' website
  • Practise using the timetable web page
  • Access the library website and use 'My ABC library'
  • Access other useful resources available to you

What’s involved?

You will join students who are new to ABC from all over New Zealand and the world, all about to begin a programme with us. The programme may be face-to-face or via distance-learning, and may be of any length. We want your student experience to be as positive as possible, so it's important for you to be able to participate fully in your studies, including online interaction and collaboration, and to know what resources are available to help you with many different aspects of student life, not just with your programme.

These materials will be available to you for three weeks before the new semester begins, and will remain open until the mid-semester break, so you can easily refer back to them if you need to.

What do I need to have, before I can start?

Before you begin using these materials, you should have received your student ID number and temporary password, together with your ID card. If you have not received these, please call us as soon as you can on (+123) 0800 HELP ABC (0800 4357 222) to let us know. You also need access to an internet connection, and basic web-browsing skills (step-by-step instructions are provided for anything that is specific to ABC Institution).
