Module 7: Institutional Issues

Many institutions might consider encouraging staff to build MOOCs if it could be done at lesser costs than those suggested by large institutions who are currently building them. In many cases, teaching staff may not have the learning technology skills to build courses on their own, so in this module, we will look at some of the things institutions could consider in order to provide the required facilities and support aimed at minimising the new skills teaching staff need to learn while keeping workload and the cost of centralised services under control.

By the end of the module, you should know how to:

• Identify Hardware, Software, facilities and Support Services needed to support teaching staff to develop MOOCs
• Plan a MOOC development project based on the principle of “division of labour”
• Plan simple systems to minimize communication and reduce errors
