The Human Rights Council and UPR Process Activity One (Required Activity)

The United Nations Human Rights Council was created to replace the former United Nations Commission on Human Rights, a body discredited and disbanded due to its deep politicisation of human rights and uneven treatment of different nations. The HRC, however, is plagued by many of the issues that so hampered its predecessor, despite a mandated commitment to impartiality. One of the initiatives associated with the establishment of the HRC that has attracted positive attention, however, is the creation of the Universal Periodic Review Process. Find out more about this in the video below:

The Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council and Its Interaction with other Human Rights Procedures (29:04)

Today's speaker is Markus Schmidt, from the Office of the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights.
