Global Issues: Concepts and Challenges

The subject introduces students to the basic concepts and theories needed in international studies, as well as to the place of rights and ethics in international studies. Students use these concepts and approaches to critically examine socio-economic, political, and cultural issues using case studies. Case studies vary, to reflect contemporary challenges. They may include global citizenship, ethnic and global conflict, human migration and refugees, food security or the environment. These case studies of global issues challenge students to apply knowledge to practical use in ways that address concerns that cannot be addressed by governments or institutions acting alone.
