Global Issues/Global citizenshipcc

Welcome to Concept Corner! Key concepts for this module are: Global Citizen A global citizen is a person who views themselves as part of the global community, and typically wants to contribute to shaping that community. There is no legal definition of a ‘global citizen’, in contrast to national citizenship – rather, individuals may choose to identify themselves as global citizens. Find out more here: Ron Israel, ‘What does it mean to be a Global Citizen?’
Nation-state A nation-state is a geographical area in which people sharing at least some traditions live under one government. ‘Nation’ typically refers to a people sharing a cultural identity; ‘state’ refers to the political entity. Sovereignty Sovereignty is the authority and right of a power, typically a government, to rule over a territory, and the recognition of such internationally. Find out more here: Martin Griffiths and Terry O’Callaghan, International Relations: The Key Concepts (New York: Routledge), pp. 296-8.
