Case for Transformation. Humanity can no longer blindly drain the planet of resources while creating great volumes of toxic waste. The cost of our lifestyle is burdening the planet beyond its ability to maintain life, not just as we know it, but civilisation & all other forms of life.

I love the funnel analogy, humans trying to force into our ecosystems more waste than it has the capability to effectively cope with. We have failed to design for a sustainable future in the past, but this awareness will lead to better design, using materials which are sustainable & last longer.

recycling is great, but should we also offer services for people to fix their broken things before they even throw them away?

The most surprising point of reinventing organisations is that the paradigm of the powerful leader is at the heart of all of the other paradigms. I guess as the paradigms encompass each other, we find that we become our own powerful leader. We lead ourselves while respecting the whole.

Unilever have decoupled their environmental footprint from business growth, and increased their positive social impact. They've recognised that business should serve shareholders, the environment, and the community because they all have a common future.Sustainable practice is good business strategy.

In my view, Steve's most important message is that universally agreeing to sustainability principles ensures cohesive and concerted efforts by the whole community. It provides a strategy for sustainable practice. It enables the translation of priorities across the community, to all parts.

3 challenges: Exchange system for needs: 1. Improved baseline assessment of needs. (More like the 9 needs described by Max-Neef). 2. Improved coordination and cooperation. (between Winz, charities, Community centres). 3. Publication of needs. Voluntary. Both high priority unassisted, and personal.

In my view, Steve's most important message is that a base line is a reference point to determine relative progress toward a goal.

Humanity is getting better at monitoring and assessing planetary boundaries. Now the challenge is for social and political systems to become involved, agree on common goals, and prioritise actions to work towards a better common future for the whole planet.

For me the drivers of trends are: The existing social and economic structures (and potential alternatives). The free will, education, and creativity of individuals. Changes of actual and perceived need.

I think education and also working examples of restorative systems will help convince the decision-makers to adopt the idea of using restorative systems.

I have changed what I buy, eat and share by trying to support NZ companies when possible. Scouting reduced to clear food to help eliminate food waste (and save money). shopping at the recycling centre and charity shops for sports equipment to share (e.g. lark in the park).

Natural systems can't continue to cope with industrial processes as we see them today. Humanity's consumption of earths natural resources well exceeds the worlds biocapacity. Earth overshoot day was Aug 8th in 2016.

For me, recycling means avoiding waste. Dumping resources is not recycling. Recycling is reuse.

Funnel model: Very interesting comments from the video .. “ human economy is apart of nature” and “the issue is civilization itself and weather we can save it”. Moving forward how can we save nature and our civilization? Is technology the answer? We need rapid change to sustain the earth/nature.
