Ancient board games/Course description

This is a course in which you will learn how to play board games that were popular from about 2000 BCE to the medieval period. During the course you will find out how to play the games, discover more about the historical context in which they were played and then have the chance to make an ancient board game so that they will continue to be played.

What will I learn?

Students will choose from a variety of historic board games such as Fox and Geese, Nine-Man's Morris, Senet and Pachisi. They will read the rules of the games and learn about the societies from which they emerged. Then every student will utilise their craft skills to create one or more of these games.

What prerequisites do I need?

None, except for an enthusiasm for playing board games and then sharing the games with others.

No special software is needed - just an active internet connection.

Craft materials such as cardboard, sticky tape, glue, pens and rulers.
