Managed Learning Environments
Background
During ULearn 2008 the Ministry of Education began the managed learning environment (MLE) work with a reference group that met for two breakfast meetings in a Christchurch hotel. From small beginnings this work has now become a multifaceted programme that touches on many areas of ICT in schools. From WE and open education resources through learning management systems to identity and access management there is a lot on the go
Definition
"Software tools and digital content that support learning" is the general definition. Intentionally broad to allow us to respond where the need most Ministry activity in this space is on integration and interoperability. This covers research, analysis, design, development, provision and implementation of things that make the parts of the MLE play better together.

We have started a Google Group for those with an interest in joining the MLE community.
