Writing for academic purposes/ENGA102/Supporting your arguments/Clams subclaims
An important skill, and one that will make your own writing better, is the ability to distinguish between main points and sub-claims. By doing this you can make sure your own essays follow a logical order and that you cover all the claims and sub-points you have said you were going to address. To help you with this, read "Distinguishing between Main Points and Sub-claims" produced by Writing Commons and written by Jennifer Janechek.
Now that you have read this article, prepare a blog post of approximately 400 words where you: identify the main claim and sub-points you think you will cover in your own essay
- Identify the main claim and sub-points you think you will cover in your own essay.
- Reflect on how main claims and sub-points interlock to make?
Remember to tag (Wordpress) or label (Blogger) your blog post using the course tag: enga102
Note that you can also record your reflections in a written journal, if you prefer, but sharing your insights with your classmates means that you can trigger a discussion that may lead to a deeper understanding as we can all benefit from each others experience.
