In this lesson we examine the most common ways of looking at language, and the problems that research students very frequently encounter when using English as a second language.

Focusing on student writing, we distinguish between mistakes and errors in the use of English, and look at some common ways of misunderstanding the grammar of English.

We explore various general resources for learning English, and consider when and how they're useful, as well as why they're too limited to address all the language learning needs you may have.

Then we get into the use of some corpus and concordancing tools, to look at English in a way you may not be used to, in order to see patterns that you need to recognise and be able to use.

Finally, we look at where and how you can make space for language learning in your everyday life.
